Meet The Staff: MrsHawk

If you spend enough time around Havn County, there’s a good chance you’ll eventually run into me.

I’m MrsHawk.

I’ve never really been someone who enjoys being in the spotlight. I don’t need everyone looking my way, and I’m perfectly happy letting other people have the stage.

But helping people?

That’s different.

Why I’m Here

I’ve always liked helping people.

Sometimes it’s something small — answering a question, pointing someone in the right direction, helping them understand something, or just being someone who actually listens.

Sometimes it’s more complicated.

Someone has an idea they don’t know how to make happen.

Something isn’t working.

Something has gone wrong.

Or someone simply doesn’t know who to ask.

I like being that person they can come to.

Not because I always have the answer.

I usually don’t.

But I can listen.

I can look into it.

I can ask someone who knows more than I do.

And if necessary, I can absolutely go:

“Okay… I have no idea what this means. Gossamer?”

And honestly, that’s okay.

I don’t think you have to know everything to be useful.

Sometimes helping someone is as simple as making sure they don’t feel like they’re being ignored.

I Somehow Ended Up Here

Being staff wasn’t really about wanting a title or wanting to be important.

It just kind of happened.

I like being around people.

I like hearing their ideas.

I like seeing people get excited about something they’ve created.

And when someone comes to me with a problem, my first instinct usually isn’t “that’s not my problem.”

It’s more:

“Okay. Let’s see what we can do.”

Sometimes I can fix it myself.

Sometimes I can find someone who can.

Sometimes I have to admit that I have absolutely no clue.

But I’ll still try to help find the person who does.

The Front Line

I might not enjoy being in the spotlight, but I don’t mind being accessible.

If you have an idea, tell me.

If something isn’t working, tell me.

If there’s something you think Havn could do better, tell me.

If you’ve got a completely ridiculous idea?

…Tell me that too.

I can’t promise everything will happen.

Some ideas won’t work.

Some aren’t possible.

Some need to wait.

And some will probably result in me staring at the screen for a while before saying:

“You know what? I actually really like this.”

But I’d rather hear the idea than have someone feel like there was nobody worth asking.

The MrsHawk Way

I’m not particularly interested in pretending I know everything.

I’m curious.

I’ll ask questions.

I’ll poke around.

I’ll try things.

And occasionally I’ll discover something I probably shouldn’t have touched in the first place.

That’s part of the fun.

I’m not the most technical person on staff, and when something gets too deep into coding territory, I know when it’s time to pass the problem along.

Usually to Gossamer.

Because there is absolutely no reason for two people to suffer through Lua when one of them actually knows what they’re doing.

What I Actually Care About

For me, Havn isn’t really about scripts.

It’s about people.

The characters.

The stories.

The friendships.

The stupid things that somehow become the funniest memories.

The person who finally gets something they’ve been trying to accomplish.

The player who has an idea and gets to see it become part of the world.

Those are the things I enjoy.

I like knowing that maybe I made someone’s experience a little easier.

Maybe I answered the question they were nervous about asking.

Maybe I helped turn an idea into something real.

Maybe I simply made someone feel like somebody was listening.

That’s enough for me.

And Yes, I Have A Habit

I have a tendency to hear an idea and think:

“Hmm… that could actually work.”

Which is dangerous.

Because then I’ll start thinking about it.

Then I’ll mention it.

Then someone else gets involved.

And suddenly the innocent little idea has become a conversation about how we’re actually going to make it happen.

I don’t know how this keeps happening.

But it does.

Frequently.

So, Who Is MrsHawk?

I’m someone who would rather help than be noticed.

Someone who doesn’t need to have all the answers.

Someone who genuinely likes people coming to me with ideas, problems and questions.

Someone who will try to help even when the answer isn’t immediately obvious.

And someone who is probably going to say:

“Let me see what I can do.”

before I’ve even thought about whether I actually have the time.

Because that’s just how I am.

I like helping people.

That’s really the simplest explanation.

And if I can help make Havn a little better for the people who call it home?

Then I’m exactly where I want to be.
